I find it continually inspiring that each of our clients brings to us a unique and beautiful idea of how to add a touch of timber to their space. Timber is such a beautifully rich material that you can use to effortlessly add warmth into your home. There are the endless variations out there that you can select from, depending on the look you are hoping to achieve. You can use recycled for a more rustic or industrial look or perhaps selecting the timber due to the natural grain feature and colour that is unique to its species.
As taste in timber is so individual, we thought we would share a few of our essential go to’s along with some of our top ways to introduce timber when planning a home renovation.
Tip 1 – Oak Timber For Light and Bright
Light timbers like oak always make for a bright relaxed look. Pairing it back with whites and neutral tones, creates the feeling of a fresh, light and spacious interior. Whether you simply opt for a touch of timber such as some floating shelving or an all oak kitchen like the image below, it’s a look that you will always feel at home in.
Enjoy being creative with introducing timber into your space. Consider and have fun with how you can design a piece of furniture that reflects both style and function.

Tip 2 – Material Juxtapostion
Creating a well-considered juxtaposition by adding timber tones to contrasting coloured or textured materials is a great way to give balance to your space. Timbers combined with light and bright interiors, provides the sense of spaciousness, draws attention to the beautiful features in the design and adds a feeling of warmth to the home.
We love the use of light oak in this white kitchen and the way it perfectly complements the otherwise white palette. By simply adding a stylish timber shelf and some lower cupboard fronts, a beautiful juxtaposition of materials has been created and wa-la, you have that gorgeous timber warmth.

Tip 3 – Built In Timber Dining Table
Struggling to decide between stone or timber, why not do both?! The rawness of timber complements the luxury of stone so elegantly, every time.
Adding minimal timber can sometimes be all you need to lift the warmth in your kitchen. We recently completed a project where we built-in the walnut dining table to the island bench and this little bit of timber in the space just made all the difference. Perhaps consider this as an option when you are designing your kitchen as you can add such a unique touch that will complement the interior architecture of your home.
This will be a space that you just love sharing your morning breakfast, because its built with your lifestyle in mind.

Tip 4 – Window Bench Seat in Timber
Every time I see a big window framed with a timber bench seat, it gives me the warm fuzzies! Can you just imagine yourself sitting there sipping a glass of red and enjoying a good book! You can soften it with custom seat upholstery, throw cushions or even your favourite sheepie! Plus…..it’s another great option for storage, and who does not need that? Just be sure to make it wide enough to comfortably fit your toosh!

Tip 5 – Framing A Space With Timber
Do you have a home that has some quirky nooks? Perhaps you bought it like this, or you have added them for a touch of interest. Which ever it may be, consider framing the interior walls in a timber that will complement your space.
We love how this was done in the entryway. It has completely transformed the space, let alone being an example of material juxtaposition done exceptionally well.

Tip 6 – Functional Beauty Of Timber
You can build a hallway cupboard or, you can craft a absolute masterpiece! Consider the different abilities you have when using such a versatile material as timber. This Fluted door front detailing is such a stunning way to make a feature out of something that can be ordinarily mundane. Play around with the width of the fluting to create a completely different look. Closer together would be less bold but very smart and understated.
