As well as shipping throughout Queensland from our Brisbane workshop and showroom, we can also deliver our premium furniture interstate. Buywood Furniture ships to Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Tasmania, Perth and Darwin. We can also ship to regional areas, but please get in touch with us to discuss feasibility and shipping costs.

The Custom Furniture Process

As custom furniture makers, we specialise in facilitating a concept-to-creation process with our clients. We can work with you to turn your ideas from sketches into your ideal furniture piece. We’re passionate about involving our clients throughout the design process, and providing a true insight into the intricacies of craftsmanship that go into each piece.

Starting with your concepts and the timber of your choice, we can create any manner of bespoke furniture items. We spcialise in creating dining tables, kitchen benchtops, coffee tables, bathroom vanities, bedroom furniture, office furniture and a range of occasional furniture pieces. If you don’t live in Brisbane, regular meetings at the Buywood workshop might not be possible. However, we can still facilitate a meaningful custom furniture making process for you.

Lee Kenny, founder of Buywood Furniture, is a fourth generation furniture maker who oversees every piece of custom furniture made in our Brisbane workshop.

Lee and his team of talented craftsmen make each of our pieces by hand, using traditional joinery techniques. Each piece undergoes an intensive sanding and polishing process by hand, and all upholstered furniture is hand-tailored and stitched. The result of our careful, meticulous work is a truly handmade finish, and the best quality furniture money can buy.

Buywood Furniture is very excited to invite you to the anticipated launch of its 2018 range. Heralding a significant evolution in the style of furniture created by Buywood, this range moves beyond the traditional, classic appeal of previous collections to reveal a fresh take on furniture fundamentals.

The 2018 range takes influence from contemporary Scandinavian styles, but what makes these pieces truly unique is the Australian twist they possess, developed from decades of furniture making in Brisbane. Born from a desire to create something new and exciting for the Australian market, fourth generation furniture maker and Buywood founder Lee Kenny has created a range that combines premium aesthetic with accessible versatility.

The range will be supported by a highly flexible choice of fabrics and finishes, so that each item can be customised to perfectly suit its new home. Each piece will also showcase Buywood’s famously discerning hand-picked collection of recycled and ecologically-friendly timber product.

To celebrate the launch of this new range, Lee and the friendly team at Buywood will be showing new pieces every Saturday in the lead up to Christmas. Join them in Buywood’s award-winning Alderley showroom for drinks, nibbles and discussions about all things furniture.

World Hastings, Hastings world.  One of our most recent additions to the showroom floor at Buywood is this dapper chap, Hastings.

Hastings has an effortless charisma.  Heavy gauge legs are solid not stolid, due to their smooth cylindrical finish and subtle tapering line.

The frame is rebated into the top of the dining table and creates very modern corners where sloping edges meet stylish curves.

This is a table that catches your eye, rather than poking it.  There is no screaming for attention, just a lifetime of reward as each sitting yields newly discovered complexity in the hand-sanded spotted gum grain.

The balance in weight between the thinner curved edge table top and the thicker cylinder legs creates a very versatile table, capable of hosting formal dinners and laughing get togethers with equal aplomb.

Earlier this year, Buywood Furniture received two “Best of Houzz” awards, one in the Design category and one in the Service category. Houzz is the leading online platform for home renovation and design, so it was an honour to receive this level of recognition from them. The recipients of these awards are chosen by the Houzz community, which consists of forty million monthly active users on the site as well as one million professionals in the home building, renovation and design industries.

Our award in the category of Design was awarded based on the popularity of our pieces of furniture amongst the Houzz community. We were thrilled to be recognised in this category, as the design and quality of our furniture is of the utmost importance to the Buywood team. Throughout the design process of each of our custom made pieces, we provide our clients with insight into the art and intricacies of the craftsmanship going into their furniture. We specialise in collaborating with our clients to design truly unique piece for them, so it was wonderful to see our passion for design reflected in our first Best of Houzz Design award.

The award we received in the Service category was based on several factors. Both the number and quality of reviews we received on our Houzz profile were considered when we were chosen for this award. One of the reviews we received in December of 2016 from our customer Chris is as follows, “EXCEPTIONAL!!! From design to delivery Lee and the team at Buywood provided such a wonderful experience that I cannot thank them enough. We had a bathroom vanity and shelving cabinet designed and constructed by the team of craftsmen at Buywood (for our bathroom reno) and the quality of finish and attention to detail has been commented on and admired by every tradesman passing through and of course myself!! Demand for sophisticated, multi-purpose furniture for inner city living continues to increase in Brisbane. Buywood’s new Inner City Spring Range has been released and is now available for viewing at our showroom in Alderley, Brisbane.

With clean Scandinavian lines through the elegant American ash timber that lend the table the luminescence it is named for, the Pearl extension table has been designed for a modern urban aesthetic. The extension function and custom options talk to the function of inner city living and the durability of the traditional joinery techniques allow sought after versatility in smaller spaces.

Pictured with the Pearl table is its perfect partner, the Margi chair. Margi is comfortable, stylish and an affordable high quality chair. The Margi works as a main dining chair and also very well as extra seating in the living area or even as a stylish office chair.

Each and every year without fail we have a large swathe of orders from customers looking to secure some new furniture as gifts for Christmas for themselves, their friends or family, or just to freshen up the home for the influx of guests over the holiday season.  At Buywood we hand craft our dining tables, dining chairs Brisbane and all of our other furniture using traditional joinery techniques and an intensive hand sanding process.  This approach creates absolutely divine pieces of furniture, but it takes time!

Lee Kenny, Buywood Furniture’s owner and head furniture maker was thrilled to accept the Australian Furniture Association Timber Medallion design award at Furnitex 2016.

After receiving three nominations in three categories for three separate pieces of furniture, Buywood Furniture took out the Timber Medallion design award for our Tamar sideboard.

The Australian Furniture Association selects the Timber Medallion award based on innovation and originality of furniture design, aesthetics, functionality, the use of certified or sustainably sourced timber, quality of materials and workmanship, durability and other criteria around commercial value.

The team at Buywood are excited to be exhibiting at Australia’s premier furniture industry event, FURNITEX & design 2016.  Showcase the leading edge of Australia’s furniture and furnishing, FURNITEX has grown exponentially since its inception in 1989 to now feature international pavilions and the very best of Australia’s furniture industry.

The 2016 event will take over the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre July 8-10, with over 20,000 attendees soaking in what’s new in Australian furniture design, international trends and industry innovators.

Adding to the general state of excitement here at Buywood, we are delighted to reveal that we have not one but three furniture designs shortlisted in the prestigious Australian Contemporary Emerging (ACE) Design Awards.  Administered by our peak national industry body, the Australian Furniture Association, and presented at the FURNITEX & design exhibition, the ACE awards showcase the work of creative Australians to national and international markets.
